So, last night we lost power for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. We're also 20 degrees below normal and it looks eerily like a typical October day. Drizzly, gray, suicide-inducing.
I was eating at Circa when the lights went out. All the more difficult to pick out the cilantro coated black beans from my salad... but there was a sort of common bond among all of us - sort of like huddling together in a tornado, but different. Like the table next to me got a creme brulee in the dark - I doubt you could still do that in a tornado. Score one pacific northwest, zero heartland.
I have to give it up to the amazing folks at West Seattle Blog for their up to date, almost minute by minute coverage of the unfolding tragedy. Granted I couldn't read it until this morning when the power was back on, but if you lived 5 blocks north of me you sure would've been in the know. I particularly like the video from the WSB reporter who drove around in silence, capturing the black out in all of it's glory. The footage ends in the Safeway parking lot - where mecca was in full power glory. Kind of like a beacon of hope that this suffering would not last forever. Power still exists on this earth.
And note to self- I really should reorganize my closet so I can get to those disaster supplies. What good is a flashlight if you can't get to it?
