Tonight, at Gay Bingo (Lifelong AIDS Alliance's fundraiser), my dauber was infused with some kind of good karma - and I won a game! 750 people there and I managed to actually win one! If you've never been to gay bingo, let me paint you a picture.
An old naval station on Lake Union is filled with either gay, lesbian, or very queer friendly folks in varying levels of drag. There is a theme each month, so those who aren't dressed as nuns (from the order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) are often in some form of costume. Except me, you know. There is a MC in drag who mingles with the crowd and tries to keep folks entertained, and at the half way point, "Miss Intermission" comes out to read the bingo numbers. She's been there for the last 10 years, at least. Folks sit at various tables, with 10-14 bingo cards and colorful daubers. There is food, drink, prizes, costume contests. Police officers hang out (not sure why) and are the frequent (and good sports, I must say) foci of "I saw you" submissions (for $5 you can write a message that the MC will read aloud... so and so is cute, or whatever). There are some pretty great prizes, too. Trips to resorts, etc.
I was there as a "sub" for one of the "feather boa fathers" (a.k.a. gay dad support group) members who bailed at the last minute, or as they referred to me, the "token female." We were at the "Queen for a Day" table, which was much fun - free food, drinks, cupcakes. And I won 100 bucks. Sweet!
