Shift

Wow. So in the course of a weekend we've transitioned back to the 2nd of our Pacific Northwest seasons. Gray, drizzly, dark-past-the-alarm-clock-buzzer days. If the cruise ship tourists weren't still overwhelming Pike Place Market, you'd think it was the end of October.

College football is in the air, UW volleyball!, and folks are wearing their rain coats again. Granted this is the time of the year that people schedule outdoor weddings - end of August. It's about the only time that you had a better-than-not shot at a nice, dry, sunny day. But you know, the last few years spring has been nicer than I remember - sunnier, less rainy - so maybe everything is moving backwards in time.... maybe everything is slowing down except the calendar. Does that mean we're aging more slowly than our age would indicate? If spring is now summer, is 40 now 38, and next year 40 is 37, etc. until we return to infancy?

Well, I guess a good bet is if you're planning to do an outdoor wedding, for at least the next several years, plan it for the end of July. Then June, May, etc. And we'll need to re-envision retirement to include binkies and Bob the Builder videos.
