Just thought you TX folks might get a kick out of knowing our 89-93 degree weather is enough to activate the emergency management center and open regional cooling centers.

I imagine huge refridgerators, like the ones I used to walk into to get the frozen Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough while working at Mr. C's glorified dairy queen. Just on a bigger scale.
I remember the tornado or flash flood warnings on television when I was a kid, with the scrolling list of counties under a watch, warning... the beeps that would interrupt the programming to start a new scrolling list of the locations that were flooding, or where a tornado had been sighted, or touched down, along with reminders to find a ditch if you were in an open field.
Now that I think about it, how would you get the reminder if you're in an open field? And how does the ditch advice help you in your living room?
Anyway - back to my story. So these beeping tornado or flash flood warnings were ominous. As was the pounding rain on the roof and the cracks of lightening and boom of thunder all night. The kind of haunting, calm, noah weather radio guy's voice and the radar with the line that circled round and round and round showing the red, yellow, green areas of storms. The constant repetition of the same weather report and warnings - and listening sort of in limbo, waiting for something to change.
I say this because I just noticed that we are under an "excessive heat watch." But where's the scrolling listing of counties under imminent threat? The repetitious series of 3 beeps interrupting the TV audio? The ominous noah radio voice... "King, Snohomish, and Pierce county residents are under an excessive heat watch. Those without stockpiles of ice and a portable fan should take immediate shelter in a cooling center... King, Snohomish, Pierce county residents are under an excessive heat watch. Those without stockpiles of ice and a portable fan should take immediate shelter in a cooling center..."
If only I knew what to do in an open field.
